Ralph L. Wickiser: The Covered Apple Tree Series Ralph loved the apple tree he planted on the hill in 1950. For forty eight years, he watched it grow from a spindly little seedling into a large beautiful tree. Every color of earth and sky glowed at sometime, somewhere in the apple tree. He was fascinated by the tree's infinite variety of patterns: the sunlight, the shadows, the leaves, the blossoms, the fruit, the branches, the colors, its movement when he covered the tree with cheesecloth to protect the fruit from the birds. Then, the branches really danced in the wind, and there was music. Jane Wickiser — Bearsville, NY February, 2000 |
